Johnson's 31 leads Aztecs' rout of Hawaii

Sophomore center Paris Johnson scored a career-high 31 points on 15-of-19 shooting and had seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the San Diego State women's basketball team beat host Hawaii 71-48 in front of 1,306 at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu.

Jen Layton-Bailes had 13 points for the Aztecs (3-2). Megan Tinnin scored 12 points to lead Hawaii (0-4).

Today, SDSU plays Prairie View, which lost to No. 22 Iowa State 75-59 earlier in the day. In the tournament's third game, No. 5 Stanford needed overtime to beat No. 19 Purdue 78-70.

USD 74, SETON HALL 72: Kiva Herman scored 28 points, including going 8-for-8 from the foul line, to lead the Toreros (4-2) over Seton Hall.

WESTMINSTER (W) 92, SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN 74: Dorchella James led all scorers with 23 points, but visiting Westminster College beat the Hawks 92-74 in a nonconference game.

NO. 11 OKLAHOMA 87, NO. 10 PURDUE 82 (OT): Blake Griffin had 18 points, including the go-ahead free throws in overtime, and matched a career high with 21 rebounds to help Oklahoma (6-0) rally past Purdue (5-1) in the championship of the NIT Season Tip-Off in New York.

NO. 4 PITTSBURGH 80, TEXAS TECH 67: Sam Young scored 24 points to lead Pittsburgh to an easy win in the semifinals of the Legends Classic in Newark, N.J. Pitt (6-0) advanced to today's championship game against Washington State, which beat Mississippi State 63-53 in the other semi.

NO. 5 MICHIGAN ST. 94, OKLAHOMA ST. 79: Raymar Morgan scored 29 points as Michigan State (3-1) notched a convincing win in a losers' bracket game at the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

NO. 7 DUKE 95, DUQUESNE 72: Lance Thomas scored a career-high 21 points to help host Duke (7-0) get the win.

NO. 9 GONZAGA 81, MARYLAND 59: Josh Heytvelt had 22 points and Gonzaga (4-0) advanced to the championship of the Old Spice Classic.

NO. 12 TENNESSEE 90, NO. 21 GEORGETOWN 78: Tyler Smith scored 21 points to help Tennessee (5-0) beat Georgetown (3-1) in the semifinals of the Old Spice Classic.

NO. 15 MARQUETTE 73, N. IOWA 43: Wesley Matthews scored 17 points and Marquette (5-0) used a 20-0 first-half run to coast to victory in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

NO. 19 WAKE FOREST 82, UTEP 79: Jeff Teague capped a 29-point performance by making two free throws with 14 seconds remaining, leading Wake Forest (5-0) to the win in the 76 Classic in Anaheim.
